In this section you can examine the region in Patagonia where we elaborate our expeditions. These 4D-maps serve as a base of the trails available, however every single trip can customized based on the interests of the group. Geographical locations and trails shown as colourful objects in the maps can be clicked for more information – explaining briefly the phenomena affecting to the region from scientifical and experiencial perspectives. These aspects give the fourth dimension – The Living Geography – to the maps. You can navigate freely in the map zooming, orbiting and moving around the area – all the controls and possibilities are listed in the help panel on the upper right corner of each map.
Feel free to explore The Living Geography of Patagonia Adventure Expeditions!
Landscape created to these maps is reflecting the reality via The European Space Agency´s (ESA) Sentinel 2 satellite image taken on 2nd of November 2018. The topography of the visualization is formed with Global Digital Elevation Model (GDEM) named Advanced Spaceborne Thermal Emission and Reflection Radiometer (ASTER) by North American Space Assosiacion (NASA) and Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA). All the treks shown here have been walked in October 2018 – February 2019 collecting the coordinates for trails and elevation models with Garmin GPSMAP64 apparate. Creating and defining the fourth dimension within the map included living in Sol de Mayo and calling upon the knowledge of the local people and guides of Patagonia Adventure Expeditions (PAEX). Data is visualized using QuantumGIS (QGIS) open-source software. Exact elevations of mountains are listed referring the two sources – El Instituto Geográfico Militar de Chile (IGM) and The United States Geological Survey (USGS).
